1. SKILLS AND BARRIERS PROGRAM
The Skills and Barriers Program addresses barriers to employment, work skills, work habits, and work attitudes through use of work in the day treatment program. It is a preparation for future work activities including: employment, volunteer work, training, or education. Skill tasks develop self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as help to rectify problems and attitudes that can lead to loss of employment.
2. THE LUNCH BOX
The Lunch Box is a food service rehabilitation business that operates out of Program For People’s facility. The Lunch Box provides breakfast, lunch and meals to-go to Programs For People's clients and staff. It is a prevocational service that combines an actual work environment with full-time supervision and support. Workers in The Lunch Box perform a variety of food service duties, including food preparation, customer service, and general cleaning and sanitizing. Clients receive minimum-wage pay for a work week of up to 10 hours, participate in peer-support group, and utilize day treatment groups. Continued use of The Lunch Box is reviewed every 3 months, at which time the client may choose to move on to employment placement services.
3. SUPPORTED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Education and/or training support is provided to clients of the day treatment program who want to enroll in college or specialized training programs in order to promote career objectives. Support services include individual or group vocational counseling, day treatment groups, crisis intervention, and social service advocacy.
4. SUPERVISED VOLUNTEER WORK
Clients of the day treatment program who wish to pursue volunteer work may find assistance from vocational staff in choosing and obtaining a volunteer position. Support services include individual and group counseling, day treatment groups, crisis intervention, and social service advocacy.
5. PROJECT ADVANCE
Project Advance is a job placement service for adults with mental illness. It is a Consumer Based Employment Service (CBES) reimbursed by the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. Candidates for Project Advance have demonstrated an ability to work and a readiness to return to community employment. Participants attend a 4-week series of classes and seminars designed to develop an employment plan, identify career options, refine coping skills needed in the workplace, and enhance resume and interviewing skills. Placement is individually tailored to occupational goals. On-the-job support is provided as long as required to assure successful job retention. Additional program components include support services, vocational counseling, crisis intervention, and employer training. Project Advance provides service to cities and towns surrounding the Framingham/Natick, Marlboro/Westboro, and Newton/Wellseley areas. Referrals may be made directly to Project Advance, without prior use of other Programs For People services.
